The Start of FIRST
”For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology” (FIRST), was founded in 1989 by Dean Kamen, the famous entrepreneur who invented many modern marvels, such as the Segway Human Transporter. He saw the world was heading such a direction that science and technology were rapidly growing in importance. Noting that the current output of scientists and engineers in the world would not be sufficient, he set out to inspire youth to pursue education and careers in these fields. Thus FIRST was born.
