Mrs. Maureen Dorough “Moe,” earned her bachelors degree in special education from Central Michigan University and taught for over 10 years. After earning a masters degree in counseling psychology from Western Michigan University, she worked as a high school guidance counselor. With the opening of a new elementary building, she was asked to take on the assistant principal position and earned administrative certification through Grand Valley State University (GVSU). Working as an assistant principal, and eventually the principal of an elementary building for 15 years, gave many opportunities to utilize both her counseling and special education experience. In 2007 and with the assignment of director of special education, she went on to pursue the special education certification, also at GVSU.

Faced with a fiscal challenge, her previous district combined the director of special education position with an elementary principal position. Although passionate about both, she sought out this Belding position in the hopes of continuing her career as a director of special education, determined to make a difference for the student’s of the community.

Maureen and her husband Allan reside in Belding. She has two loving sons and a precious daughter-in-law. Ryan and Miravone are both chiropractic physicians. They reside in the Chicago area where he is working as chiropractor, while Miravone pursues her second doctorate in naturopathy. Evan, moved back home last year and is continuing his degree at Ferris State University in welding engineering. They appreciate their secluded setting just off of Whites Bridge Road where they can enjoy golf cart riding on the trails and bird watching; especially the hummingbirds by the dozen.
