On Monday, October 11, 2016, the Board of Education held a special meeting for community discussion on the Redskin Mascot.  Erik Rodriguez of the Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Council and Colleen Green, Director of the Student Transition Enrichment Program and Office of Native American Programs at Central Michigan University, gave a special presentation on the Redskin Mascot.  At the conclusion of the presentation, Mr. Rodriguez and Ms. Green accepted questions from the audience.  The community members present then broke into small groups for further discussion.  Group discussions included topics such as the need for education, the time for change, cost, student and community involvement, honor, and pride in the community.

The next Board of Education meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, October 17 at Belding High School.  Mr. Pat Shannon will give an educational presentation during the meeting.  Public attendance is welcomed and encouraged.
