The Belding Middle School offers track and field as a spring sport. Track and field offers 17 different events. In most events, athletes compete individually to score points. These points are added together to determine the team champion. Races range from the short sprint of the 70-meter dash to the 3200-meter run (or 2-mile run). There are four field events in middle school track including the high jump, long jump, pole vault and shot put.
The season runs from the third Monday in March through the second Friday in May. Practice typically goes from 3:00 to 4:30 PM each weekday. Meets usually start the second week of April. Meets are usually run on Monday and Wednesday nights, but there are some meets on other afternoons of the week.
The boys team is coached by Chris Shindorf and the girl’s team is coached by Jory Tripp. The high school coaching staff also lends their expertise.
